BMW 320d vs Volkswagen Golf GTI?

I am looking at buying either a BMW 320d Convertible or the Identification 6 Golf GTi. (I already have a convertible, a Triumph TR5 so if it's a hardtop I'm not bothered.)

As far as I about the Stag was a real lemon and most people who bought one had lots of problems.

Both cars are really bad for rust, but the MGB GT is a undeniably stylish car.
