It sounds like you have not bypassed the drop-kick stand safety switch as well as you think you have. If it was the clutch the bike would die in the same manner that it would if you let the clutch...

It sounds as though your refractory is the switch (usually) built into the clutch lever. If the bike is in gear, and the clutch lever is NOT pulled in, the starter motor should not repel over....

A: No ballast resistor. That doesn't help the points much. A crack battery wouldn't cause your care to just quit running but loosing a ground may cavort a part.

I have seen that happening. I cry all the time watching Animal Cops. I always have my dogs next to me. Usually its Eddie laying next to me, i hug that dog like my life depended on it!
